About Name Vault

A Tool We Wanted for Ourselves

I’m Jussi Hyvärinen, a long‑time entrepreneur who’s launched more side‑projects than I can count. Each idea stalled in the same place: finding a short, memorable domain that was still up for grabs. After wasting one too many evenings on registrar search boxes, I built a script to brute‑force pronounceable 4- to 6-letter names. Friends asked for it, then agencies asked for bulk lists. Name Vault grew from that weekend experiment into the desktop app you’re trying today.

What We Do

  • Generate better names, faster – Two engines work side by side: a language‑pattern algorithm for ultra‑short names and an OpenAI‑powered model for niche‑aware suggestions.
  • Show live availability & price – No point falling in love with a name if it’s parked for $10k. Name Vault checks multiple TLDs and surfaces real purchase prices when you need them.
  • Keep you in control – Your OpenAI, Domainr, and Namecheap keys stay local. We don’t store them or meter usage.

Why a Desktop App First?

Speed. Bulk generation and file exports run straight on your CPU, so you can churn through thousands of candidates without waiting on a server queue. A Mac build is in testing; a web companion is on the roadmap once we nail performance.

Core Principles

  1. Practical over flashy – Features ship when they save minutes, not just because they look cool.
  2. Transparent costs – We tell you exactly how much each AI call costs (fractions of a cent).
  3. Privacy by default – All generation happens locally; only the availability APIs see your candidate names.

Timeline

  • October 2024 – Weekend script, then private beta for selected online entrepreneurs.
  • February 2025  – Algorithm refined, UI rebuilt in WPF, live Domainr checks added.
  • April 2025 – Public launch with AI mode, multi‑TLD price panel, Mac alpha.

Roadmap

  • Mac build
